Summary
DescriptionPhysochlaina orientalis fruiting calyx axile placentation.jpg |
English: A ripe fruiting calyx of Physochlaina orientalis (M.Bieb) G. Don (family: Solanaceae), brightly-lit to show detail of dehiscence: operculum has withered and fallen and enough of the yellowish-buff, pitted seeds have fallen out of the pyxidial capsule within to reveal axile placentation - remaining seeds arranged radially around pale placenta with its twin septa dividing the pyxidium into two compartments. Bright lighting also shows to advantage ribbed exterior, clad in silvery pubescence, of apically-toothed calyx. |
