Summary

Description
English: ON THE WINGS OF THE DOVES: The Gabriola Peace Doves movement in the 2000s

Life on Gabriola TV sits down with Shelagh Huston and Phyllis Reeve in this second installment of our series on Gabriola's peace doves. Shelagh and Phyllis were part of the second wave of peace proponents creating and distributing the doves during the early 2000s, as a response to 9/11. They built on the work of the Gabriola Island Peace Association in the 1980s.

Shelagh and Phyllis tell interviewer Lisa Webster about why, along with islanders Jay Mussell and Ted Reeve, they revived the tradition, how they also created "baby" peace doves for tourists or to give as gifts, and why having peace symbols matters. They also discuss the 1960s peace movement and its echoes today.

"And now we've got a third generation [of peace doves]," says Shelagh, "and obviously we need peace as much as we ever did."
