Summary

Description
English: * On a blue oval 2 1/2 inches in length by 2 inches in width a white sea lion brandishing a sword in its right paw.

Symbolism:

  • The sea lion is from the coat of arms of Spain (Aragon); it suggests the Spanish heritage as well as the maritime nature of the area in which the command operated.

Background:

  • The insignia was originally approved for the Philippines Department on July 8, 1922.
  • It was redesignated for the Philippines-Ryukyus Command on August 14, 1947 and redesignated for the Philippines Command on August 1, 1949.
