Summary
[edit]Diagram of Philadelphia Ball Park, the eventual Baker Bowl, when it opened in 1887. Reprinted after the 1894 fire destroyed the ballpark. Note the railroad tracks running behind the outfield. The tracks would later be lowered below street level, allowing the ballpark to expand and fill the block. From Philadelphia Times, August 7, 1894, p.2.
