Summary

Description
English: On the occasion of Sri Krishna Janamastami or Nandotsav, Pekjatra is celebrated as a religious ritual where young boys have fun with mud in the forecourt of the Barpeta satra. It is said that elated over the birth of a baby boy comparatively at a later age, Nandaraj organised a special programme on the day next to Sri Krishna's birth. The people of his state engaged themselves in merrymaking in the programme. The ‘Pek Jatra’ or the fun with mud is an imitation of the age-old tradition.
