Description
English: In the foreground: the granite embankment of the Neva River (1763-1780) at the old Hermitage. In the background: The Spit of Vasilyevsky Island, the StockExchange (1805-1810), and the two Rostral Columns (1805-1810) by architect Thomas de Tomon. Theembankment was constructed between 1804 and thesecond decade of the 19th century. Blueprints for the uncompleted section of the spit were used when creating the composition. The building on the left is the edifice of the Russian Academy of Science, designed by architect A.D. Zaharov, which was never built.
