Notes Notes from Kloss, William, et al. Art in the White House: A Nation's Pride. Washington, D.C.: The White House Historical Association, 2008:
"In a protected glen Fisher interjects three cows and three sheep that graze, drink or stand quietly under the care of a seated shepherd and his dog. Nothing moves, save a distant mountain cataract whose sound does not reach us. Nothing disturbs the calm. ... The artist has in some places blurred the leaves of the trees, probably by splaying the bristles of his brush, producing a sense of air and delicacy."
