Summary

Description A syntax tree for the sentence (S) "John hit the ball". The top S node branches into an noun phrase (NP) 'John' and verb phrase (VP) 'hit the ball'. The VP (corresponding to a traditional predicate) branches further into V 'hit' and NP 'the ball'.
