English: View from one of the Suomenlinna islands facing west and a bit north taken at about 1415 on 28 Feb 2009. Parts of Helsinki can be seen on the rightmost portion of the image. The Baltic right-of-center is frozen over, left-of-center is liquid water. This is one direction the Russian Empire would potentially expect enemy fleets to approach from; directly behind photographer is a bunker with two artillery pieces oriented accordingly. |
