English: Post Office notice of mail robbery issued on 22 February 1794 by Chester post office text states "MAIL ROBBERY, post boy that was carrying the mail, who was stopped on the 17th by two men and robbed outside of Neston. The two men suspected of robbing the mail are Samuel Norman, 26 years old, a Butcher, 5 feet 8 inches, face marked with the small pox, small eyes, blue coat, corduroy Breeches, round hat and Daniel Matthews, 28 years old, a labourer, 5 feet 5 inches, Brown hair, large teeth, has sailors blue jacket, two blue spotted neck handkerchiefs, has a cut under right ear that has grown to a lump. Whoever apprehends the offenders will get 40 pounds by Act of Parliament and 200 pounds from Post Office. Stephen Palin, Post-master" |
