Summary

Description
English: "Liebig Chromos". Trade card by Liebig's Extract of Meat Company. Series 1399, Popular games, no 1. Football. Private collection Paul MR Maeyaert. 7,1 x 11cm. ; Ref: PM_110413_Liebig_Chromos; www.pmrmaeyaert.eu; www.polmayer.com; Cultural heritage; Cultural heritage|Techniques|Postcard trade card. Text on reverse: JEUX POPULAIRES; 1. - Football.; Aucun jeu n'est devenu aussi populaire que le jeu de football. De provenance britannique, il a pris, après la guerre mondiale, un essor tel, qu'on trouverait de nos jours peu de personnes n'ayant jamais assiste à un match de football.; Les deux équipes, de onze joueurs chacune, n'ont qu'un seul souci, envoyer la balle dans le but (goal) adversaire. Ils ont à suivre des règles bien déterminées, et il arrive bien souvent que l'arbitre soit obligé d'arrêter le jeu pour une faute commise. Régulièrement les matches attirent un grand nombre de personnes, niais le jour où une rencontre internationale a lieu, la foule envahit les places des heures avant que l'arbitre ne fasse jouer le toss et que le coup d'envoi ne soit sifflé. Le public ne néglige aucune occasion d'encourager son club favori et quand celui-ci réussit un goal, l'enthousiasme est à son comble et des applaudissements assourdissants éclatent de toutes parts.; Un coup d'œil sûr, une adresse contrôlée et une grande résistance à la fatigue sont exigées des joueurs de football. Doués d'une certaine abnégation, ils se trouvent maintes fois contraints de sacrifier leur amour-propre à la victoire de leur équipe. Il suffit de jeter un coup d'œil sur les journaux pour avoir la preuve de la grande popularité de ce jeu.;
