Summary

Description
English: PLUTO (Pipe Line Under The Ocean) was a system used to supply fuel to the British Army in France shortly after the invasion of Normandy. Although the system made use of very long lengths of pipe, couplings were required join sections of pipe. This coupling was designed for a lead pipe with various layers of protection wrapped around it.
