Summary

Description A Consolidated PB4Y-1 Liberator of patrol bomber squadron VPB-114, wearing U.S. and British markings, at Lagens Field, Terceira Island, Azores Islands (Portugal), in 1944/45. Portugal was neutral, but maintained friendly relations with Great Britain during the Second World War. In 1943 an agreement was reached that allowed the RAF Coastal Command the use of Lagens Field. Therefore, U.S. aircraft based there wore British and U.S. markings and operated under RAF Coastal Command control.
