Here's another image of the same plane on the ground with commander Vernon R. Richards and ground crew. The caption says the aircraft was destroyed 16 November 1944.

Richards had a succession of personal aircraft named "Tika" starting with this P-47D.

Apparently identical image appears at littlefriends.co.uk website along with attribution to Al Richards, brother of pilot Lt. Vernon R Richards. "Tika IV" at 361st Fighter Group Gallery

This photo appears on page 145 in the book Best of the National Air and Space Museum by F. Robert Van Der Linden (ISBN 0060851554). The caption in the book says the photo was taken somewhere over England in 1944-45, though the aircraft was reported by 361FG as destroyed in November 1944, making the book's caption somewhat suspect. Google books search for "Tika IV"

This image appears at littlefriends.co.uk website gallery with credit for the photo given to Al Richards, reportedly the brother of the pictured pilot Lt. Vernon R Richards. It's assumed Al Richards received the photo from his brother's estate. The photographer is most likely another US serviceman flying formation with Lt. Vernon R Richards. The PD-USGov Licensing is based on this assumption.
