Summary

Description This is a Louis Levy postcard from about 1904 showing Oxford Circus looking east towards New Oxford Street. The very early motor bus is turning right into New Oxford Street from Regent Street and an officer from Vine Street police station is directing traffic. There is also an officer on the pavement centre right on a 'Fixed Point', these were locations where citizens knew that they could find a Police Constable. In Dickens's Dictionary of London (1888) this fixed point's location is described " Oxford Street-Circus, corner of Swallow Street, south side of Oxford Street, west of Regent Street. This was a very busy location as can be seen from the photograph.
