Summary
| Description |
English: Our Lady of Snows Basilica, established in the 16th century when the port town of Tuticorin was under Portuguese influence, is one of the important landmarks of Tuticorin. Mother Mary, as Lady of Snow, (Panimaya Matha) is worshipped by the coastal people and the deity was provided with a golden car in 1806 by the Bharathavar community.
The car is 53 feet tall marking the 53 beads of the Holy Rosary, a form of prayer to Mother Mary. The morning star that gives a hope to the mariners in the sea adorns the top of the car.
