Purpose of use in article (WP:NFCC#8)	The file shows three small images, all drawn by Tolkien, to illustrate how his conception of this one subject, the tower of Orthanc, developed while he was writing The Lord of the Rings.

Minimal use (WP:NFCC#3)	The images are reduced and cropped from their originals to form this small composite file. They are the only examples of Tolkien's artwork in the article, and the only illustrations of Orthanc drawn by Tolkien anywhere on Wikipedia.
Respect for commercial opportunities (WP:NFCC#2)	It seems extremely unlikely, given the low quality of the images here, the fact that they are cropped from the original, and have been in print now for over 30 years.
