Summary
Ormskirk station, Lancashire, 1915 looking towards Southport.
Altcar Bob is in the bay platform on the right.
Altcar Bob didnt run from Ormskirk station,to the best of my knowledge. It ran between Southport and Altcar and Hillhouse. The bay shown is of the Ormskirk to Liverpool service, used later for electric services between Ormskirk and Liverpool.
The main line through Ormskirk is between Liverpool and Preston with the camera facing Preston. There was also was a branch line from Ormskirk to Skelmersdale (old town), then onto Rainford and St Helens. It is ironic that soon after they closed this branch line to Skelmerdale, they built a big new town which does not have any rail links! However, the 25" Ordinance Survey maps shows that this branch line came off the main line to Preston just outside the station. So that cannot explain the bay platform.
There are no other possible destinations for the bay line except Liverpool. However, after Aintree, the old maps show another line forking to the north end of Liverpool by Gladstone Dock, which would connect to the famous Liverpool Overhead Electric Railway alone the docks. Perhaps this explains why the separate bay platform? Though for the large part of the journey, this train would rejoin the main line to Liverpool.

This work is in the public domain in its country of origin and other countries and areas where the copyright term is the author's life plus 70 years or fewer. You must also include a United States public domain tag to indicate why this work is in the public domain in the United States.
