English: Opening of the New Swing Bridge at Newcastle-on-Tyne. Illustration for The Illustrated London News, 29 July 1876. The ship passing the bridge is the Italian steamer Europa, which came to collect the first 100-ton gun at the Elswick Ordnance Company.
Possibly the Europa, Passenger Cargo Ship, Launched: 27/02/1872. Completed: 04/1873. Dimensions: 2237grt, 1260nrt, 314.5 x 35.6 x 28.8ft. Builder: J Wigham Richardson & Co. Yard: Neptune Yard, Low Walker. Owner 04/1873 GB Lavarello & Co, Genoa.
Nederlands: Het schip dat de brug passeert is het Italiaanse stoomschip Europa, dat het eerste kanon van 100 ton komt ophalen bij de Elswick Ordnance Company.
