Summary

[edit]

Picture that appeared in 1978 edition of Diorama, the University of North Alabama's annual, of O'Neal Hall, which was demolished in the 1980s to construct Guillot University Center. It is used in this context to illustrate Greek life at University of North Alabama in the 1970s.

This image may or may not be subject to copyright (no copyright was listed in publication, which is now almost 30 years old).

I believe its use is covered by U.S. fair use laws for the following reasons:

  1. It is a historically significant photo of a famous University of North Alabama landmark that longer exists. (See "O'Neal Hall, University of North Alabama Web site: http://www2.una.edu/history/Old%20Site/oneal.htm)
  1. The scanned image is of much lower resolution than the original; consequently copies made from it will be of inferior quality.
  1. The photo is being used only for informational purposes.
  1. Most important, the inclusion of this graphic adds significantly to the section on Greek life because it illustrates the role O'Neal Hall played in the formation of fraternities and sororities at the university.
