Summary

Description

English: Argon Pedion, “Nestani-Saga-Polje” in the Arcadian highland. The groundwater of the stone-framed well, now unused, served for irrigation of the soil in the dry period. In case of floods due to heavy winter rains, which may happen even today, the possibility of cultivation was retarded of course. When flooded, a temporary lake could occur.
The closed Karst basin is solely drained by a single Katavortha (Greek for ponor). Lake and ponor are already described by Pausanias (110-180 AD) in his “Description of Greece”. He named the field “Argon Pedion” (Greek for untilled plain).

Deutsch: Argon Pedion, „Nestani-Saga-Polje“ in Arkadien, Griechenland.
