Description
  • English: Ludovico il Moro is handed over by his Swiss mercenaries (left) to the French forces (on the right, Louis Duc d'Orleans (later King Louis XII (1462-1515) King of France from 1498 to 1515 and King of Naples from 1501 to 1504. The son of Charles, Duke of Orléans, and Marie of Cleves, he succeeded his second cousin once removed and brother-in-law, Charles VIII, who died childless in 1498)) in the standoff at the w:Siege of Novara (1495). The French army also had a strong contingent of Swiss mercenaries. The Swiss soldiers on both sides refused to fight each other, and finally the French king agreed to let Lodovico's Swiss troops retreat peacefully. However, the agreement did not cover Ludovico himself. His Swiss mercenaries disguised him as one of their own and tried to smuggle him away with them, but he was recognized and had to be turned over. The Swiss later tried one of their own for having betrayed Ludovico for money. Ludovico died 1508 in French custody.
Ludovico starb 1508 in franz. Gefangenschaft. Siehe auch: Ennetbirgische Feldzüge
