Summary
| Description | I got a call in 2010 about a large northern snapping turtle, Chelydra serpentina serpentina, trying to cross a road, so I stuffed a dog crate in the truck and headed out there. This big ornery fellow was still unharmed, but there wasn't any water around save for an ever-drying roadside ditch. I picked him up and later released him at McDowell Dam, a much more suitable and permanent habitat with plenty of delicious frogs, fish, and ducklings. |
