Description

Diagram of British No. 1 Direct Action percussion fuze, with cap, Mk III.
Armstrong fuze in service 1900 - 1918.
Requires a heavy impact to activate.
Has no loose or movable parts to move forward on impact. Head of fuze has a copper disc supporting a steel needle over a detonator. The needle must be crushed in to explode the fuze.
A cap or screw plug covers the top of the fuze to provide safety during transport, and is removed just before loading.
For use with Common lyddite shell for the following guns :
