Original field notes: This may be a large-fruited pandanus introduced from somewhere in the western Pacific, as a food plant for the Phoenix Islands Settlement Scheme 1938-1962. Note the typical prop roots of pandanus, enabling them to live along the coast, enduring violent seas and winds. |
