English: News Gothic is one of the most famous sans-serif fonts, but there are actually a lot of different versions with varying character shapes, spacing etc. Here are three digital versions: Monotype's (bundled with Microsoft Office, so the best-known), Bitstream's (on Corel Draw) and Softmaker's (I think licensed from URW, but not certain about this). As can be seen, Monotype's version is much wider than the others. However, it's important to realise that much of this difference is in spacing: when you track out Bitstream and Softmaker's versions they look a lot like Monotype's. As explained in the captions, all versions have an equalised (cap) height.
