Summary

Description
English: Schematic showing high-level multi-step process of neurogenesis and gliogenesis. Activation of proneural genes by EGF and FGF results in neural stem cell (NSC) differentiation. Upon Notch-Delta signaling between neighboring NSCs, a subset of cells will become neuronal progenitors (giving rise to neurons), whereas the inhibited cells will become glial progenitors (giving rise to astrocytes and oligodendrocytes).
