DescriptionNeurexin-Neuroligin interactions at the synapse.jpg
English: Neurexin-Neuroligin interactions promote synapse stabilization. On the presynaptic side, neurexin also associates with synaptotagmin and calcium channels, essential components of presynaptic function. Neurexin is also capable of binding to CASK (calcium-calmodulin dependent serine kinase) as well as components of the actin cytoskeleton. On the post-synaptic side, neuroligin interacts with scaffolding proteins that help cluster receptor channels. At glutamatergic synapses, neuroligin's PDZ domain binds to PSD95 which is also associated with NMDA receptors. At GABA-ergic synapses, neuroligin's PDZ domain binds to gephyrin and is also responsible for collybistin activation.
