Summary

Description A indigenous woman wielding a club attacks and kills one of the crew members of the Portuguese mapping expedition to Brazil in 1501 (third voyage of Amerigo Vespucci to the New World). As described and reported by Amerigo Vespucci in his 1505 Letter to Soderini. This woodcut is from a 1509 German edition of Vespucci's Letter to Soderini, published in Strasburg.
