Description
English: Equestrian statue of George Washington on the National Cathedral grounds, Washington, D.C. Located below Pilgrim Steps by the Pilgrim Road. Sculptor Herbert Chevalier Haseltine (1877–1962). Cast in bronze and mounted on a granite pedestal, the setting is paved with Salisbury granite durax blocks. The equine figure has agates for eyes. Donated by James Sheldon, benefactor of the Cathedral Close. Dedicated on February 22, 1959. Considered as an outstanding example of equestrian statues in the world.
