Summary

Description
English: Miniature by Nainsukh (c. 1710-1778), Victoria and Albert Museum, London, Height: 18.5 cm, Width: 26 cm, (https://collections.vam.ac.uk/name/nainsukh/12063/ link) V&A comments: On the left, a ruler is seated on a white marble terrace; identified as Raja Dhrub Dev in the inscription. The soft and limited colour palette create a sensitive portrayal of the figure. On the right, five attendants stand near a horse, each engrossed in their task. Two are holding up a white sheet to frame the figure of a horse standing in the foreground. One controls the horse, while the final two bear torches aloft. The recognisable work of the painter Nainsukh is evident on the right, with the detailed and meticulous details awarded these subsidiary characters. This painting consists of two painted halves, joined together near the centre creating an integral work where the balustrade of the terrace extends into across the join. Whether or not more than one artist was involved in its production remains to be confirmed.
