Nederlands: "Dit fragment van een bijna vierkant kleitablet is afkomstig uit de bibliotheek van koning Assurbanipal in Nineveh. Hij regeerde in de 7de eeuw v.Chr. en was trots op het feit dat hij kon lezen en schrijven. Mede daarom verzamelde hij teksten over allerlei onderwerpen. Tussen 1845 en 1851 zijn er in zijn bibliotheek meer dan 20.000 kleitabletten door de Engelse archeoloog Austin Henry Layard teruggevonden. De hier getoonde astronomische tekst behandelt verschijningsvormen van hemellichamen zoals de maan, en de daaruit af te leiden voorspellingen. De astronomen in Mesopotamië hoopten uit de beweging en positie van de sterren het lot van de mensen te kunnen lezen. De goden die waren opgestegen naar de hemel bepaalden immers wat er op aarde gebeurde. Door de hemel te bestuderen, ontdekten de astronomen ook de regelmaat in het hemelruim. Uiteindelijk maakten ze op basis hiervan een kalender van 12 maanden.
