English: Sopwith "Camel" airplane piloted by Lieutenant Commander E.L. Hammond, makes the first take-off from USS MISSISSIPPI (BB-41) forward turret platform, at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, 6 April 1919. Naval History and Heritage Command catalog # NH 43915 *note-While NHHC claims the date to be 8 April 1919, the photograph is marked 6 April 1919, though slightly blurry.
