Summary

Description
English: Extracellular measurement capture lower spike amplitudes, often from several sources (depending on the size of the electrode and its proximity to each spiking source). Despite the degraded amplitude of these measurements, they have some advantages: 1) They are experimentally easier to obtain 2) Robust and last for a longer time. 3) Capturing the activity of several neurons can potentially emphasize the dominant effect over accidental phenomenon due to the inherent spatial averaging.

This diagram image could be re-created using vector graphics as an SVG file. This has several advantages; see Commons:Media for cleanup for more information. If an SVG form of this image is available, please upload it and afterwards replace this template with {{vector version available|new image name}}.

It is recommended to name the SVG file “Multi unit measurement.svg”—then the template Vector version available (or Vva) does not need the new image name parameter.
