Yes

Purpose of use

To illustrate a comparison between Mulder and Jesus Christ. One reviewer noted that the episode features Mulder as a Christ-like figure. In the episode, while he is being experimented on by scientstis, he is placed on a cross-like table, symbolic of the wooden cross that Jesus was nailed to, with a metal ring placed around his head, which stands in for the crown of thorns.
