English: On the pedestal of the Mariensäule (München) (Mary's Column, the Virgin's Column) onthe Marienplatz in Munich, Bavaria, Germany, are four putti slaying an animal: a basilisk, a snake, a lion and a dragon. this is a reference to psalm 91 verse 13 „Super aspidem et basiliscum ambulabis et leonem et draconem conculcabis“ "You will tread on the lion and the adder; the young lion and the serpent you will trample underfoot." Here the basilisk, symbol of pestilence, is slain.
