Deutsch: Eines der vier Fabeltiere der Mariensäule in München. Hier der Drache, der den Hunger verkörpert. Die Eckpositionen des Säulenaufbaus wurden 1641 mit vier sieghaften, mit antiken Panzern gerüsteten Putti besetzt. Sie kämpfen gegen die Hauptübel, denen die Menschen zur Zeit des Dreißigjährigen Krieges ausgesetzt waren: Unglaube (Schlange, Inschrift: SUPER ASPIDEM), Pest (Basilisk, ET BASILISCUM), Krieg (Löwe, ET LEONEM) und Hunger (Drache, ET DRACONEM). Die auf den Putti-Schilden zu lesenden Worte beziehen sich auf Maria: „SUPER ASPIDEM ET BASILISCUM [ambulabis] ET LEONEM ET DRACONEM [conculcabis]“ („Über die Schlange und den Basilisken wirst Du gehen und den Löwen und den Drachen wirst Du zertreten“; Psalm 91, Vers 13). |
