Description

mountain meadow aster, Symphyotrichum spathulatum var. spathulatum, California, White Mountains, Cottonwood Basin, Fishlake Valley drainage, elevation 3046 m (9995 ft).

The common name pretty much sums it up for this species, which is widespread in appropriate habitats throughout most of western North America, from western Canada to northwestern Mexico. It reaches its highest elevation limit right here in the White Mountains, about where these images were taken.
