Summary
[edit]A colourful source image is converted to a red+white image as follows. The red component is the same as the original red channel, while the white component is the average of the three RGB channels. The resulting image is simply the sum of the red and white components. The bottom half is the same image with the red and white components interlaced in horizontal stripes rather than combined. If the image is viewed in the dark, the mountain caps appear white and colours appear including green and blue and even a tinge of yellow. (Click for the full-size image for the bottom half to display correctly.) (Original image source: http://images5.fanpop.com/image/photos/31400000/spring-in-the-mountains-spring-31493838-1280-800.jpg)
