DescriptionMotte and Bailey, Halton, nr Lancaster - geograph.org.uk - 6448.jpg
English: Motte & Bailey, Halton, nr Lancaster. This ancient fortress dates from the 11th century [probably!] and is one of a series located along the River Lune, which is out of sight a few hundred metres beyond and below it. Just visible on the righthand skyline is the Ashton Memorial at Lancaster - a familiar landmark to travellers on the M6.
