DescriptionMotherwell Locomotive Yard War Department 2-10-0 geograph-2755968-by-Ben-Brooksbank.jpg
English: War Department 2-10-0 in Motherwell Locomotive Yard.
With a dominating back-drop of spoil heaps, ex-WD 2-10-0 No. 73798 'North British' stands at Motherwell Depot. It is a Riddle 2-10-0, 150 of which were built in 1944-45 by the North British Locomotive Co. at their Hyde Park (Glasgow) Works, this being one (built 8/45) of the last batch of 25 that were never sent abroad but were run on BR and officially purchased in 12/48. All were working in the Scottish Region by late 1949 but were withdrawn by the end of 1962: No. WD 73798 became BR No. 90773 and was withdrawn in 12/62. If the engine was not so filthy you could see that the words 'North ... British' surround the 21st Army Group flash of a blue cross on a red shield.
