Description
English: A painting of a mother hen and her chicks, by an anonymous Chinese artist of the Song Dynasty (960–1279). The later Ming Dynasty Emperor Chenghua (r. 1464–1487) inscribed the written euology at the top of the painting, where he describes his fondness for this Song Dynasty era artwork. The use of a black opaque background is a rarity in Chinese painting.
