English: One of the finest mansion houses in the Royal Mile. Built by the Countess of Home in 1628, it passed to its new owner, the Countess of Moray, in 1645. It is believed that Cromwell resided here when he met representatives of the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland in 1648 and after the Battle of Dunbar in 1650.
