English: Montgomery Castle Well preserved and is an excellent vantage point - a 'must visit' site. The castle was built by Henry III in 1234 to counter the growing power of Llywelyn ap Gruffudd in this area of the Marches. During the Civil War, Parliamentary troops seized the castle, and in 1649 it was demolished by order of Parliament.
