Summary
[edit]I just now took this picture of a bag of manganese carbonate and my cat Sparky. I bought the MnCO3 from a ceramics supply store for use in staining concrete. Adding hydrochloric acid (aka muriatic pool acid) releases carbon dioxide gas and forms manganese chloride. The chloride makes a nice deep brown/black coffee colored stain.
