English: Egun in yoruba represent an ancestor of a lineage or one of the spirits of the community. In a plural from the are calles Egungun which refers to a collective of ancestral spirit occupying a space in Orun (land of the dieties). During festivals like the one during which this photograph was taken, the Egungun are always present to represent the ancestors of the people and they are usually escorted by gangan (talking drum) drummers. Most of the Egun i have encountered are always very beautiful dancers so its always a beauty to experience them live.
