English: Plaque memorializing the Academy of Mining and Forestry, Banska Stiavnica, Slovakia. Located mid-way along the grand entrance stairs through the main entrance. The first part (in Latin, roughly translated) reads: "On the 200th anniversary of the founding of the Academy of Mining in the Free Royal Mountain City of Banska Stiavnica, 1763-1963." The second part (in Slovak, also roughly translated): "The first department in the oldest mining university in the world was established c. 1763. The first professor, M.J. von Jacquin, commenced lecturing in Chemistry and Metallurgy on September 1, 1764. The Departments of Mathematics, Mechanics and Hydraulics, were established c. 1765. The Department of Mining Sciences was established c. 1770, at which time the Academy was given its name. The Forestry Institute was established at the Academy in 1807. The school was moved out of Banska Stiavnica, beginning in 1919."
