Description
Alba Schwartz, née Larsen (1857-1942) grew up in Copenhagen and married Otto Schwartz in 1882. In 1899 he became mayor of Skagen, and Alba Schartz became part of the circle of friends connected to the Skagen painters. Michael Ancher had gathered notes for a book about the history of Skagen, but he passed them on to Alba Schwartz, who used them as part of the material for her two books about Skagen, published in 1912 and 1913. There is a smaller (55 x 35 cm) version of this painting at Skagens Museum, dated 1901.
