Summary

Description
English: Model of the terror bird Mesembriornis at the Chicago Field museum, prepared by taxidermist Leon L. Pray, seen on the left.

The modelling mixture consisted of casein paint, ground asbestos, chopped tow and pencil-sharpener shavings. The feathers were made of balse bood. The feet and claws were whittled out of tulip-tree wood.

Though it cannot be seen in this black-and-white photo, the model was colored to follow the coloration of the cariama (red-legged seriema), relatives of the terror birds.
Nederlands: Model van de schrikvogel Mesembriornis in het Chicago Field museum, gemaakt door de taxidermist Leon L. Pray, die links naast het model staat.
