DescriptionMerrill Field tower nearing completion.jpg
English: The old tower of Merrill Field prior to its completion in 1961. This structure also contained airport offices and a pilot's lounge. Contrails can be seen overhead. The accompanying text mentions that the building was complete at this point apart from the installation of air traffic control equipment by the FAA, which was expected to take place into the following year. A replacement tower was constructed adjacent to East Fifth Avenue, or to the north and east of this tower on the other side of the east-west runway, around the turn of the 21st century. See File:Anchorage Alaska Aviation Museum (40131455840).jpg for the present setting of the air traffic control cab of this tower.
